UNESCO WORLD HERITAGE SITE:
There are 10 UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Nepal. Two are in cultural category and two are in natural category. World Cultural Heritage Site of Nepal are Lumbini, the birth place of Lord Buddha and seven monuments of Kathmandu valley within a radius of 20 km together counted as one Heritage Site. The World Natural Heritage Sites are Chitwan & Sagarmath National Park.

The shrine with probably the largest stone statue of Lord Vishnu in Nepal is reclining on a bed of Nagas or serpents in the middle of a small pond. The 5-m long granite image carved out of a single rock dates back to the Lichchhavi period. BUDHANILKANTHA TEMPLE MAYA DEVI TEMPLE (LUMBINI: MAYA DEVI TEMPLE, is the most important temple among the ancient heritages. The temple houses ancient idol of Mayadevi. MAYA DEVI TEMPLE, located in the Rupandehi district of Lumbini Zone is considered as a highly sacred site. Lumbini, the birthplace of Lord Buddha, the messenger of peace , is one of the holiest places on the earth where Lord Buddha's mother, Shakya Queen Mayavati, gave birth to prince Gautam inside the beautiful Lumbini garden in 623 BC. LUMBINI GARDEN MANAKAMANA TEMPLE (GORKHA: Manakamana temple lies 12 km south of historic town Gorkha and located on a prominent ridge (1302m) overlooking the river valleys of Trisuli (south) and Marshyandi (west). People believe Manakamana Devi fulfills the wishes of her devotees, thus called the wish fulfilling deity. MARNAKAMANA DARSHAN HALESI MAHADEV TEMPLE - Halesi Mahadev, is a sacred temple for both Hindu and Buddhist. It is believed that inside the temple, the Halesi cave has been used as a dwelling for 6000 yrs. Lord Shiva hide there when hiding from the demon Bhasmasur. The location of the cave is between the holy rivers of Dudh Kosi and Sun Kosi River. Ram Nawami and Ganesh Chaturthi fairs and festivals are held in this region.
