Khopra Danda Trekking Trail

Highlights
Mohare and Khopra ridge community trek is recently developed trekking destination, launched as an alternative to Ghorepani-Poonhill trekking route in the Western part of Nepal. The trek almost lead off the beaten tracks, often remote villages, with the actual experience of home stay hospitality. In the villages along the trail, you will visit handmade paper production facility, cheese factory, mushroom farms, yak and cow cross breeding farm, sacred forests and temples, community nursery and heath post using advanced tele-medicine

The trail was developed under initiation from Dr. Mahabir Pun to his birthplace to promote sustainable development by means of Eco-tourism. The whole concept of this route is based on community investment for the sustainable future. The villages in the regions have invested in the lodges and hotels along the trail such that the revenue from the hotel/lodges goes back to the schools of the villages.

The religious attraction of this trail is the holy Khair Lake, which is located at 4600 meters from the sea level. As the lake is located at higher altitude, the visitors need to have slight experience of higher altitude trekking.

After 65 min. more walk and 4-5 small climbs we reached a little pass and 5 min. later a chautara (rest place). Short after the chautara there was a sign to Khopra on our left hand. About here someone has made a tea stop, if it is open. Up to the left there is a praying flag. It is the trail to Deurali. Walk 15 min. up here, and there is a great viewpoint. Now it became hard. It was only a small trail high up on the mountainside, so be careful. Some parts very gentle around the mountainside and some parts were very steep up. After almost one hour we reached the top, and short after we started to go down, we saw the lodge at Baili Kharka. They are planning to make the last part of this trail better.

Min after the top we will reach at the lodge..

Day 08: Khopra Danda (3660m.) – Paudwar (1750m.) 3½ hour. From Khopra Ridge it is possible to walk to a lake (4300). It takes about 5 hours. The trail is steep down on a ridge with irregular stones and stone steps, but mostly ok. It is also a very nice trail with a nature and a view so beautiful, wild and dramatically, that again it is like a fairytale. After 1½ hour we reach a big Ridge, and from there the trail was no longer a problem. But now we became a very nice view to the Hillsides of Nepal. After two more hours we reach the nice little village of Paudwar, where not many other tourists are coming. Besides the school there is little local hotel. It is basic, and the food is basic. But it is a nice place to stay with a clean toilet and a clean bathroom, and the people are very friendly
