Shisapangma Base Camp Trekking |
|
The North Shishpangma Base
Camp is nearly 50 km west from friendship highway. We commence
overland from Kathmandu to Nyalam where a day acclimatisation is
taken. The following day we continue by road to the high pass of
Nyalam Thong-La (Lablung-La - 5100 m.) shortly after crossing
the high pass we branch west and continue along a grassy road
before finally reaching our destination Shisapangma Base Camp.
The base camp is an elongated series of meadows wedged between
ridge and the river draining from Shisapangma's Yambukangala
glacier, the main ice floe on this side of the mountain. A long
but rewarding outing from base camp is the hike to advance base
camp and the snout of this glacier's then jumbled surface of
frozen ice waves. Another good hike follows the crest of the
ridge directly across the river from the base camp, providing
outstanding views of the entire Shisapangma and Peiku Lake
region. The base camp is so far from glacier that most people
can not trek to advance base camp and return the same day.
A trek to Shishpangma Base camp can be combined with Lhasa,
Everest Base Camp (north face) and Mt. Kailash & Lake
Manasarovar tour. Travelers can fly to Lhasa from Kathmandu or
from mainland China, where they spend a few days for sightseeing
tour and acclimatization. After visiting Lhasa they travel
Gyantse via Yamdruk Tso (Turquoise lake), Shigatse, Sakya and
eventually to the Everest Base Camp (north face). They spend a
day to trek to Everest Base Camp and the next day travel to
Shisapangma Base Camp. After trekking two days in Shisapangma
Base Camp we travel to Kathmandu via Nyalam and Zhang-Mu.
For those, we wish to make a trekking to Shisapangma Base Camp
combining with a journey to Mt. Kailash & Lake Manasarovar can
visit Shisapangma Base Camp in the beginning then continue their
journey to Mt. Kailash & Lake Manasarovar. After visiting Mt.
Kailash & lake Manasarovar, they return to Kathmandu via same
route. However, alternatively they can travel to Lhasa and fly
back from there, if they like. |
