Welcome to
Sikkim - Tranquility Supreme:
The enchanting little state of
Sikkim lies in the eastern end of the mighty Himalayas flanked
by Bhutan, Nepal and Tibet on it's east, west and northern
borders respectively.
Sikkim lies nestled under the protective shadow of its guardian
deity, Mount Knachenjunga (8598m). the third highest mountain in
the world. Conveniently accessible by rail air and road, this
little Himalayan jewel is fast becoming a favorite gateway for
tourists in recent years.
The area of Sikkim is 7,096 sq. kms and measures approximately
about 110 kms from north to south and about 64 kms for the east
to the west. The elevation ranges from 224 mts to over 8590m
about sea-level which gives Sikkim it's incomparably range of
flora and fauna the majestic mountain peaks, the dense foothill
forests, the frothing rivers and the lush paddy fields make this
22nd state of India a hotbed of bio-diversity not found anywhere
else. |

SOUTH
DISTRICT - SIKKIM of Deities and Spirits, Views

The
district Head Quarters of the South
District are at Namchi literally
translating as the "Top of the Sky"
Anyone visiting West Sikkim has to
traverse through the South District
before entering the West. A slight
distance above the Alley ground is
the Serdup Choling Monastery which
commands a panoramic view of the
town and the mountains beyong.
One of
the interesting places to visit
enroute to Namchi is the gaint
statue of Guru Padmasambhava which
is the only one of its kind the
Sikkim.
For the
young ones an ideal stopover would
be the Rangit Water World - the lake
formed by the Rangit Dam, Situated
26 km downhill from Ravangla. It is
a fun place with boating, fishing
and swimming facilities. |

RAVANGLA: |
Reminiscent of a town from the Wild
West, Ravangla is a sleepy hamlet at
about a height of 7000 feet. The
township comes alive during the Pang
Lhabsol festivities when the
spectacular Warrior Dance is
performed at the Ravang Monastery by
the locals. |

MEANAM |
MEANAM
Peak (10,300 ft) is a 12 km up-hill
trek from Ravangla. The route winds
through a thick forest of oak,
chestnut, magnolia and
rhododendrrons. A natural habitat of
the Red Panda. Himalayan Black Bear
and many species of deer, this area
is designated as a wildlife
sanctuary. A short distance away is
the legendary Bhaley Dunga, a kind
of rocky spur which juts out from
the ridge top above Yangang Village |

TENDONG HILL |
Tendong
Hill 8,530 ft) - The name means
"upraised horn" from the Lepcha lore
relating the time when a great flood
submerged their land and Tendong
rose up miraculously like a horn to
save them. Even today prayers are
offered from the filltop before the
oneset of the monsoons to appease
the details and prevent a recurrence
of the calamity. |

It is

visited en route to Namchi. |

as per Tour category (standard/Deluxe), full board meals, Ground
transfers. Sightseeing as per Itinerary with English speaking
guide, Entrance fees and permits.
On Treks Camping Equipment consisting of Two men-tent &
mattress, Freshly cooked meals, Dinning & Toilet tents, Ponies
and trek staffs. A minimum of 2 person is required for obtaining
permit to trek in Sikkim. |

GETTING THERE:
Fly from Kathmandu to Biratnagar /Bhadrapur (Nepal) and transfer
by road or fly from Delhi /Calcutta to Bagdogra (India) and
transfer by road. The other option would be to arrive by train
from any part of India to New Jalpaiguri. |

SEASON:
Mid February to late May and Mid September to late December. |
CLOTHING:
During Summer-light jackets & rain gears. In winter-down gears
at high altitude. |

ENTRY FORMALITIES:
All foreigners intending to visit Sikkim has to avail of an
Indian visa which can be obtained at any Indian Embassy or
Mission abroad. The inner state permit which is also a must can
be obtained along with the visa. |
