Welcome to
Sikkim - Tranquility Supreme:
The enchanting little state of
Sikkim lies in the eastern end of the mighty Himalayas flanked
by Bhutan, Nepal and Tibet on it's east, west and northern
borders respectively.
Sikkim lies nestled under the protective shadow of its guardian
deity, Mount Knachenjunga (8598m). the third highest mountain in
the world. Conveniently accessible by rail air and road, this
little Himalayan jewel is fast becoming a favorite gateway for
tourists in recent years.
The area of Sikkim is 7,096 sq. kms and measures approximately
about 110 kms from north to south and about 64 kms for the east
to the west. The elevation ranges from 224 mts to over 8590m
about sea-level which gives Sikkim it's incomparably range of
flora and fauna the majestic mountain peaks, the dense foothill
forests, the frothing rivers and the lush paddy fields make this
22nd state of India a hotbed of bio-diversity not found anywhere
else. |

Foreigner must obtain Inner Line
Permit (ILP) to visit Sikkim. The
permits can be obtained from all
Indian Missions Tourism Office - New
Delhi, Sikkim, Tourism Office -
Kokkata and Sikkim Tourism Office -
Siliguri, Rangpo Tourist Lodge on
the strength of an India visa. The
15 days duration permit is issued on
the spot without any deley provided
photocopies of passport and visa
details along with two passport
photographs of the applicants are
made available then and there. The
permissible duration of stay by
foreign tourists would be 15 days
initially with the State Government
authorized to extend the same by a
further period of 30 days of 15 days
each. The extension of permits can
be obtained from FRO at Gangtok,
Superintendent of Police of the
North, West and South District.

For
those interested in going for
trekking in the interior regions of
the State, the Department of Tourism
issues Protected Area Permit (PAP)
at Gangtok which is available for
certain specified area for group
consisting of two or more foreigners
subject to the conditions that the
trekking programme is arranged
through a Registered Travel Agency. |

Nathula
can be visited only by Indian
citizen and Tsangu Lake can be
visited both by Indian and foreign
citizen after obtaining the
permission from Tourism Department
through registered travel agents. |

Accommodation on twin sharing basis
as per Tour category (standard/Deluxe), full board meals, Ground
transfers. Sightseeing as per Itinerary with English speaking
guide, Entrance fees and permits.
On Treks Camping Equipment consisting of Two men-tent &
mattress, Freshly cooked meals, Dinning & Toilet tents, Ponies
and trek staffs. A minimum of 2 person is required for obtaining
permit to trek in Sikkim. |

Expenses of personal nature, Travel Insurance and re-entry visa. |

GETTING THERE:
Fly from Kathmandu to Biratnagar /Bhadrapur (Nepal) and transfer
by road or fly from Delhi /Calcutta to Bagdogra (India) and
transfer by road. The other option would be to arrive by train
from any part of India to New Jalpaiguri. |
BEST
SEASON:
Mid February to late May and Mid September to late December. |
CLOTHING:
During Summer-light jackets & rain gears. In winter-down gears
at high altitude. |

ENTRY FORMALITIES:
All foreigners intending to visit Sikkim has to avail of an
Indian visa which can be obtained at any Indian Embassy or
Mission abroad. The inner state permit which is also a must can
be obtained along with the visa. |
