The train from Shanghai to Lhasa will be open to traffic on
October 1, 2006. Passengers will enjoy some special services
while traveling to 'the roof of the world'.
One season, one cuisine:
The food on the train is of Shanghai style mixed with some
flavors of Suzhou and Wuxi. Four major Cuisines named 'Spring,
Summer, Autumn, and Winter' with more than 140 varieties will be
presented in the four seasons separately. Another menu having
over 80 varieties can also meet passengers' different need.
24-hour's meal supply:
On trains from Shanghai to Lhasa, passengers can enjoy two ways
of dinning service: eating in the dinning car and buying fast
food in the carriage.
During the Shanghai-Golmud section, both the food in the dinning
car and fast food in carriages will be provided. And the
Golmud-Lhasa section supply passengers with fried dishes and set
meals in the restaurant car and delivered meal to carriages
according to the passengers' requirements. Passengers can enjoy
the 24-hour meal service on the train.
Guards with 15 kinds of new
equipments:
To guarantee the operation of the train successfully, 33
policemen were chosen as guards on the train. All the guards are
familiar with the knowledge of the trains to the plateau and
equipped with 15 kinds of special equipments like arms,
winter-prevention clothes etc.
Trainmen mastering 36 kinds
of emergency-solving plans:
All the 210 trainmen chosen are well trained and of high level
of service. They master 36 kinds of emergency-solving plans such
as the method to solve the passenger's injury, and water
shortage problems etc.
Other special services:
Programs like 'Teaching You to Speak the Tibetan Language' will
be broadcasted on the train. Trainmen will also introduce the
sceneries and customs along the line and teach passengers to do
body exercise when the train runs on the Golmud-Lhasa section.
Besides, telescopes can be hired on the train. In the soft berth
carriages, four-color slippers, tea cups with four-color labels
will be provided for easy identification.

Sightseeing Qinghai-Tibet Train:
A deluxe 5 star sightseeing train will soon be up and running on
the newly-completely Qinghai-Tibet railway, Ma Jiantang, vice
governor of Qinghai province, revealed during a tourism
promotion meeting held in Shanghai.
The details of the deluxe travel route are still under
discussion, as the train will be available only after the
Qinghai-Tibet railway has been formally opened for a while.
The deluxe train is designed to reach 5 star standards. It will
be equipped with an advanced oxygen-support system, like those
used in airplanes. An on-board medical service will also be
provided.
The cars of the train will be completely transparent, allowing
passengers to view scenery from all sides. Passengers will be
able to take showers on the train and enjoy dance performances
and karaoke. The train will only carry 100 passengers at a time
The sightseeing train will pass many tourist attractions on the
Tibetan plateau, including Lake Namtso, Kunlun Mountain,
Yangbajing thermal spring as well as Potala Palace.
The train is aimed at foreign travelers, with the price of this
deluxe tour of "the roof of the world" set for $1,000 per day. |
