TOUR CODE NO: 0564 |
Ngari, the western region of Tibet, is one of the
most remote and inaccessible parts of the country.
Ngari is a real frontier-but the engine of Chinese
development is chugging steadily across the wild
plains of the nomads. The trip to Ngari is marked by
stunning, desolate, scenery and sacred Mt. Kailash
and Lake Manasarover are two of the most remote and
legendary travel destinations in the world. Many of
the pilgrims on the road have been planning it all
their lives. The main attractions of what is likely
to be a three-week trip are a mountain and a lake.
And for the truly intrepid there are the
otherworldly ruins of the ancient Guge Kingdom at
Tsaparang and Ngari's almost unknown prehistoric
rock carving near Rutok. For those not overly fussed
by the spiritual significance of Mt. Kailash, going
to one of the most isolated conrners of the globe is
likely to be as much an attraction as the
destination itself.
